Sometimes the best tattoos happen on a whim.

Maybe you’ve been mulling over an idea for months, or maybe inspiration just struck while you were grabbing coffee down the street. Either way, walk-in tattoos let you turn that impulse into ink without the wait.

We’re not a conveyor belt shop cranking out nothing but identical flash. Our skilled tattoo artists treat every walk-in with the same care and attention as a booked custom tattoo appointment, whether you’re getting a tiny fine line design or claiming a piece from our rotating flash tattoo collection.

How Tattoo Walk Ins Work at Enigma

Walking into a tattoo shop without an appointment doesn’t mean you’re getting whatever’s quickest. It means you’re getting quality work on your timeline.

Here’s how it goes: you show up, check in with whoever’s at the front, and we’ll see who’s available. If an artist is free, you’ll sit down for a quick consultation to talk through your idea. They’ll sketch, adjust, and make sure you’re both on the same page before any needles touch skin.

What to bring:

  • A clear idea or reference images (or just browse our flash)
  • Valid photo ID
  • An open mind about minor adjustments for better execution

Walk-in availability varies depending on the day and how booked our artists are with appointments. Weekdays tend to be quieter. Saturdays can get busy.

If you’ve got a specific artist in mind, it’s worth calling ahead to check their availability.

Same-Day Tattoo Services in St. Louis

Walk-in tattoos work best for small to medium tattoo designs that can be completed in one sitting. Think palm-sized or smaller, clean concepts, bold ideas that don’t require a ton of intricate shading. Our skilled artists can knock out fine line work, traditional tattoos, simple blackwork, script, geometric shapes, and plenty more in a single session.

We keep a rotating selection of flash on hand if you want to grab something pre-drawn and ready to go. Flash isn’t just generic clip art. These are original custom designs created by our artists, updated regularly, and available for anyone who wants to walk in and walk out with fresh ink.

Popular walk-in requests:

  • Fine line florals, animals, and minimalist designs
  • Bold traditional pieces (daggers, roses, panthers, you know the vibe)
  • Lettering and script work
  • Small symbols, icons, and geometric patterns

If your idea needs more time or a custom illustration, we’ll talk through whether it makes sense as a walk-in or if booking an appointment is the better move.

When to Book an Appointment vs Get a Walk In Tattoo

Walk-ins are great, but they’re not always the right call.

If your tattoo idea is large, detailed, or requires multiple sessions, booking an appointment makes more sense. Custom sleeves, intricate realism, full back pieces? Those need dedicated time on the schedule. Walk-ins work best for smaller, simpler designs that can be wrapped up in a single sitting.

Booking ahead also guarantees you’ll work with a specific artist. Walk-ins are more flexible, you get whoever’s available, and while our whole team is talented, sometimes you just vibe with one person’s artistry more than another’s.

Book an appointment if:

  • Your design is larger than a hand-sized area
  • You want a highly detailed custom illustration
  • You need multiple sessions to complete the piece

Walk in if:

  • You want something small to medium-sized
  • You’re flexible on timing and artist
  • You’re ready to get tattooed today

Walk In Tattoo Shop FAQs

Do you take walk-ins every day?

Yes, but availability depends on how booked our artists are. Weekdays are typically slower. Weekends can fill up fast. We highly recommend calling ahead to check availability if you’re set on a specific day.

How long is the typical wait?

It varies. If an artist is free, you could be in the chair within 20 minutes. If everyone’s busy, you might wait an hour or two, or we might ask you to come back later.

Can I bring my own design?

Absolutely. Bring references, sketches, or anything that helps communicate what you want. Just keep in mind that artists might suggest tweaks to make the design work better as a tattoo.

How much do walk-in tattoos cost?

Pricing depends on size, complexity, and how long it takes. Small, simple designs start around shop minimum. Your artist will give you a quote during the consultation before any needles come out. Quality body art is affordable here, and we’re upfront about costs.

What makes Enigma different?

We’re boldly inclusive, judgment-free, and actually fun. No attitude, no pressure—just honest advice from artists who want to help you feel amazing in your skin. Plus, we’re woman- and minority-owned.

Where are you located?

We are located at 6635 Delmar Boulevard in University City (heart of the Delmar Loop) with free parking behind the building.

Quality You Can Trust Without the Wait

Just because you didn’t book ahead doesn’t mean we’re cutting corners.

Every artist at our St. Louis tattoo shop is licensed, trained, and committed to maintaining the highest standards for safety and hygiene in a welcoming environment. Walk-ins get the same sterile setup, single-use needles, and hospital-grade sanitation as any scheduled client. We follow Missouri state regulations to the letter, and then some.

The atmosphere is comfortable and friendly, not intimidating. Getting tattooed should feel like self-expression, not something you have to brace yourself for.

Before you leave, we’ll go over aftercare instructions so your tattoo heals properly. Good healing starts the second you walk out the door, and we make sure you know exactly what to do.
