Permanent Makeup, Digitally Mapped
Permanent makeup at our St. Louis studio shouldn’t feel like a guessing game. Before any pigment goes in, Grace maps the shape and placement around your features, often using an iPad photo preview and symmetry guides so you see the plan first.
For brows, mapping covers the start, arch, and tail, whether you’re getting microblading, powder brows, ombré brows, or combination brows. Lip planning covers shape, border, symmetry, and color for lip blushing or lip neutralization. For eyeliner, it’s placement, thickness, and style for your eye shape.
You see the plan and approve the shape before pigment touches your skin. If something needs to change, it changes then.

Permanent Makeup FAQ
What is permanent makeup?
Permanent makeup is cosmetic tattooing used to enhance features like brows, lips, or eyeliner. Instead of washing off at the end of the day, your artist places pigment into the skin for a longer-lasting result. The goal isn’t to make you look overdone. It’s to give you a softer, more polished version of what you already like.
Microblading vs powder brows: which one fits me?
Microblading uses small hair-like strokes and works best on dry to balanced skin. Powder brows use a fine dotting technique that holds up better on oily skin and reads more makeup-like. Combination brows use both, and Grace will recommend the right fit during your consultation.
Will I see the shape before you start?
Yes. Before pigment touches your skin, Grace digitally maps and previews the shape, placement, and overall look. You see the plan, ask your questions, and approve it before anything starts. If something needs to be adjusted, it gets adjusted first.
What is digital mapping?
Digital mapping is the planning step before any permanent makeup work. Your artist uses an iPad photo preview, symmetry guides, and shape adjustments to plan the look around your actual features. It lets us check balance, placement, and proportion before anything permanent happens, so there are no surprises once we start.
Does mapping apply to lip blushing and eyeliner too?
Yes, though it looks different depending on the service. Brow mapping covers the start, arch, tail, and overall shape. For lips, we review your natural lip border, symmetry, cupid’s bow, and color goals. With eyeliner, we confirm placement, thickness, and style based on your eye shape and comfort level. Either way, you see the plan before pigment goes in.
Will it look natural?
That’s the goal. Permanent makeup reads soft, balanced, and natural when it’s planned around your actual features. During your appointment, we’ll talk through the look you want, whether that’s subtle, more defined, or somewhere in between, so Grace can guide you toward a result that feels right on your face.
Does permanent makeup hurt?
Most clients describe it as uncomfortable but manageable. Everyone’s pain tolerance is different, and the feeling can vary depending on the service area. We’ll walk you through what to expect before we start so you’re not sitting there wondering what the hell is happening.
Is permanent makeup safe?
Permanent makeup is still cosmetic tattooing, so safety matters. That means clean technique, proper tools, professional training, and clear aftercare are non-negotiable. We’ll walk you through the process, answer your questions, and give you aftercare instructions before you leave.
How long does permanent makeup last?
It depends on the service, your skin, your lifestyle, sun exposure, aftercare, and how your body holds pigment. Permanent makeup lasts a long time, but it does soften and fade. Some clients book refresh appointments later to keep the color and shape where they want.
What does healing look like?
Healing is a process, not an instant final result. The color may look stronger at first, then soften as the skin heals. You may also notice dryness, flaking, tenderness, or patches that look lighter during the healing window. Grace will explain what’s normal, what to expect, and when to reach out if something feels off.
Do I need a touch-up?
Yes. The first touch-up is required, and it has to be booked between five and eight weeks after your initial appointment. That visit lets Grace see how your skin healed, make small adjustments, and build the result if needed. Touch-up timing and any future refresh appointments are reviewed at consultation.
Can you work over old permanent makeup?
Maybe. If you already have old brows, lip color, or eyeliner, we need to see it first. The right next step depends on what’s there: sometimes existing pigment can be worked with, sometimes it needs to fade more, and sometimes correction or removal is the better starting point. Send photos or book a consultation and we’ll tell you what’s realistic.
How do I book a permanent makeup consultation?
Book a permanent makeup consultation and we’ll walk you through the right next step. You don’t need to know all the technical terms or have it figured out. Tell us what you’re thinking, and Grace will help you understand what makes sense for your face, your comfort level, and your goals.
